Methodology

How this calculator works

Rates are based on 2026 industry data from UAV Coach, The Drone U, SkyeBrowse, and operator surveys.

1

Service type & location

Base hourly rates vary from $100/hr (real estate) to $350/hr (infrastructure inspection). Urban metros command 20–30% premiums, rural areas 10% less.

$100 – $350/hr × region × area
2

Experience & certifications

Beginners charge 30% below average. A licensed surveyor (PLS) commands 25% more than a basic Part 107 pilot. BVLOS waivers unlock higher-value infrastructure work.

0.7× beginner → 1.6× specialist + certs
3

Business factors

Equipment tier (consumer to enterprise), insurance level, client type (residential to industrial), and contract type (marketplace gig to retainer) all shape your real rate.

equipment + insurance + client + contract
4

Deliverables & complexity

Post-processing adds 15–40%. Night ops add 30%, BVLOS adds 50%. Equipment depreciation and insurance are added as real cost floors.

deliverables + ops complexity + costs
